Choosing the U

Cameron skiing

My name is Cameron Marshall and I am from Pennsylvania. I moved from PA to attend The University of Utah for my Freshman year of college. The University of Utah was appealing to me when deciding amongst schools because of its surrounding mountains and its EAE Games major. This was perfect for me because of my lifelong love for the outdoors and the art behind virtual entertainment. My whole life, my family would come out west for either skiing or biking, which I believe is what sparked my love for the western mountains. What I believe to be the most important friendships are the friends that I was with through games, even if I couldn't see them in-person. These connections with my past are what inspired me to choose the U.

When I moved into my dorm, the reality of how Covid-19 was going to affect my year became apparent. The rules behind health and safety were stringent, and I was completely alone for the first time. As the year went on, it only got better. I made new friends and got into a good schedule with my classes. I am happy that the year went as well as it did, considering how fearful and timid everyone was at the start. Every day I appreciate how well the year turned out, and all of the friends I've made along the way that I know will be life long.
